{"id":1517,"date":"2025-09-12T23:10:24","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T22:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guycuthbertson.com\/?page_id=1517"},"modified":"2026-02-15T02:06:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T02:06:15","slug":"recent-news","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/guycuthbertson.com\/index.php\/recent-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 3 March 2022, I gave <a href=\"http:\/\/guycuthbertson.com\/index.php\/the-simple-life\/\">my inaugural professorial lecture<\/a> at Liverpool Hope: \u2018A Return to Nature: The pursuit of &#8220;the simple life&#8221;, from Edward Thomas to the present day\u2019. \u00a0The recording is now available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X1EqSdrItB4\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I wrote a chapter on Edward Thomas and Walter de la Mare for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk\/books\/isbn\/9781800854659\"><em>Walter de la Mare: Critical Appraisals<\/em><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On 8 October 2022, I spoke about <em>The Icknield Way<\/em> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/petersfieldmuseum.digitickets.co.uk\/event-tickets\/42926?catID=34086\">Edward Thomas Literary Festival 2022<\/a>. \u00a0I was also part of a joint event with the Robert Frost Society.<\/li>\n<li>I appeared on the BBC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/m001df48\"><em>In Our Time,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0discussing Wilfred Owen, on 27 October 2022. (&#8216;Today&#8217;s Pick&#8217;, <em>The Times<\/em>, 27 October 2022.)<\/li>\n<li><em>Peace at Last<\/em> was published in <a href=\"https:\/\/yalebooks.co.uk\/display.asp?k=9780300254877\">paperback<\/a> in December 2022.<\/li>\n<li>I presented the 100th episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/shedunnitshow.com\/theshedunnitcentenary\/\"><em>Shedunnit<\/em><\/a>, &#8216;The Shedunnit Centenary&#8217;, 2 November 2022. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p0db76ks\">BBC Sounds<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I spoke about <em>Peace at Last<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nam.ac.uk\/whats-on\/peace-last\">at the National Army Museum<\/a> in London on 11 November 2022.<\/li>\n<li>I wrote a chapter on Edward Thomas for\u00a0<em>A History of World War One Poetry<\/em> (Cambridge University Press, 2023).<\/li>\n<li>I wrote an essay on \u2018Edward Thomas and the Mundays of East Meon\u2019 for the\u00a0<em>Edward Thomas Fellowship Newsletter,\u00a0<\/em>89 (January 2023).<\/li>\n<li>I wrote and presented an episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/shedunnitshow.com\/thedeathofthecountryhouse\/\"><em>Shedunnit<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(BBC Sounds) on <a href=\"https:\/\/shedunnitshow.com\/thedeathofthecountryhouse\/\">&#8216;The Death of the Country House&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0in February 2023.<\/li>\n<li>I was interviewed by Cal Flyn for <a href=\"https:\/\/fivebooks.com\/best-books\/poetry-of-the-first-world-war-guy-cuthbertson\/\">Five Books<\/a> about &#8216;The Best Books on Poetry of the First World War&#8217; in March 2023.<\/li>\n<li>I spoke about &#8216;Edward Thomas and Climate Change&#8217; at the Petersfield Edward Thomas Weekend in October 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Caroline Crampton and I produced an episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/shedunnitbookclub.com\/boxofdelights\/\"><em>Shedunnit<\/em><\/a> about <em>The Box of Delights<\/em> for Christmas 2023, and it appeared on BBC Sounds for Christmas 2024.<\/li>\n<li>I wrote and presented an episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/p0j0xqzs\"><em>Shedunnit<\/em><\/a> (BBC Sounds) on <a href=\"https:\/\/shedunnitshow.com\/dylanswhodunnits\/\">&#8216;Dylan&#8217;s Whodunnits&#8217;<\/a> (about Dylan Thomas), interviewing John Goodby. \u00a0There was also a bonus episode called <a href=\"https:\/\/shedunnitbookclub.com\/poetspoliticsandpopularity\/\">&#8216;Poets, Politics and Popularity&#8217; <\/a>(on Auden and Day Lewis).<\/li>\n<li>I gave a talk about &#8216;Unteaching: Thomas on Teaching, and Teaching Thomas&#8217; at the Edward Thomas Festival, October 2024.<\/li>\n<li>I was the judge for the Edward Thomas Essay Competition 2025, and in 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; On 3 March 2022, I gave my inaugural professorial lecture at Liverpool Hope: \u2018A Return to Nature: The pursuit of &#8220;the simple life&#8221;, from Edward Thomas to the present day\u2019. \u00a0The recording is now available on YouTube.
